History Denae was born and grew up in Jalanda, Bajor during the time of the Cardassian Occupation. Her mother was an architect and her father an artisan. Times were difficult during the occupation and material possessions and food scarce. Every day that passed was another possibility to die. Growing up in this difficult environment forged a strong character and great endurance in Denae. When Denae turned 19 (2363) she ran away with a Bajoran freedom fighter – Ro Boide – to the mountains of Bajor. Boide became the leader of a small and growing resistance with Denae at his side. They terrorized the Cardassians in guerilla style together with a group of Bajorans for two years when Denae conceived their son, Tayte. Boide insisted she stay within the camp until their child was safely born. Tayte had just turned 2 (2367) when the Cardassians raided their hidden camp. Denae managed to escape with Tayte and hide in the mountains, where she was forced to live off the land and constantly dodge the Cardassians hunting for the scattered members of the resistance. Her husband along with a vast portion of the freedom fighters were tortured to death, their bodies left in the camp for the returning remnant to find. When Denae returned to camp three days later with a handful of other survivors it was to find Boide’s mutilated body among the butchered freedom fighters. The anxiety of trying to hide and provide for her two year old son coupled with facing the heinous death of her husband left a white lock of hair – a telling mark of the trauma of those days. The survivors quietly buried their dead. Denae’s parents escaped the city to join her in the mountains. For the next 2 years, Denae would relentlessly lead her section of the resistance until the Cardassians left Bajor in ruins in the year 2369. The Federation entered Bajoran space to assist with the recovery of the planet. Denae’s parents convinced her to seek a better life for herself among the Federation officers. Exhausted from years of war and deprivation, Denae agreed and in 2370 entered the Academy. Her parents went with her in order to take care of Tayte while she applied herself rigorously, taking heavy course loads. Denae managed to finish her education in the counseling field in three years time.
