History
When Schala was five years old her mother and father were killed during a vacation to Kaitan. The two men Todd and Simon took Schala herself as they fled from authorities of different systems. For about eight years she traveled with them, abused and trained to be a perfect little slave. After awhile she stopped thinking about escape, and became afraid that if she was bad they would throw her away. After a little more then eight years Schala’s masters fled to the desert world of Arrakis. Wanting to avoid the cities and possible capture they dragged poor thirteen-year-old Schala to the harsh deserts. In the desert they located the remains of a village, plundered and littered with the bones of its previous inhabitants, but no sign of what caused the devastation. It was in this nameless town that Schala escaped her torment. Guided by an invisible force Schala could not understand. The echo of a small girl who in that same village, overcame her own tormenters. One faithful night, full of emotions she did not understand, such as the anger of that small girl. And the fear of hunters she had never met. Schala slipped out of the collar and leash that the two men forced her to sleep with. Normally doing so would result in a long and painful beating. However that night she didn't care, she was no longer Schala, but that blonde haired girl with the white less blue eyes she kept seeing. She hid in one of the deserted houses, after finding a secret room in the closet. When her masters woke up they tried to locate her, the moment they split up she used the rage of her echo. Neither of them had ever expected that she had claws hiding under her human fingernails. Both men were torn to shreds in that same house she hid in. There mangled bodies were never found.
Finally free from her masters, and expecting to die slowly when the shuttles replicator finally gave out. Schala searched the town for something that may yet be useful. In what was the store she found a lot of strange equipment, nothing that was made for a cat however. She spent about three hours studying some manuals she found at the store, things that whoever attacked this village had thought useless. Not knowing how to read, Schala fumbled with the buttons on the manual until it started speaking to her. She found out that those strange suits were called stilsuits and they could help maintain a persons water level.
Modifying a stilsuit to accommodate her growing tail, Schala replicated some food and water and headed into the desert. She had no planned direction, no map, and no idea where she could go. During her wandering, as the strength from her echo started to fade. Schala found a strange cave, it had a step pattern built into it. At the time she didn’t think that the steps were carved there by someone and took them for granted. She waited outside the sealed cave for a couple of hours, feeling that she was alone Schala sat down and cried. Mourned the loss of her masters as the full realization of what she had just done set in. she was alone now, there was no one to take care of her and serve. she cried herself to sleep and that’s when some strange men approached her. They were dressed in suits like the one she had stolen from that old store. Instantly alert, she shrunk back in fear, but a small part of her hoped they could be her new masters.
It was a tense moment, but a miss understanding was cleared up and the Desert people decided to let her live with them. They trained her in the ways of the deserts and taught her how to fight at her request. Most importantly they taught her how to be free. They saw in this strange little kitten a strength that once developed could not be matched. She lived with these desert dwellers for about two years, they became like her family and with them she no longer felt alone. On her second year in the Desert a random Harkonnen raiding party attacked her band of Fremen. Schala was trying to bring the Fremen back to that village that her kidnappers had found so many years ago when the attack came. Using energy weapons the Harkonnens complete wiped out her new family, leaving her alive as a plaything when they noticed she was a cat. She spent about two months with the Harkonnens, once more a captive but this time was much worse then before because of her age. The Harkonnens kept her well bound so she could not attack or escape. They abused her in every way they could think of. She got away only when the Harkonnens got tired of her and dumped her battered and abused body in a forest on the green side of the planet. Still bound, but too weak to have gone anywhere anyway Schala was about to die when she was found by a Fremen Starfleet Officer named Paul Muad’Dib. He removed her bonds and picked her up. The two transported off the planet Arrakis and that was the last time she saw the place she had come to know as home. She was healed in the medical centre of the USS Caladan. And became quick friends with Paul who at the time was the first officer aboard the Caladan. After awhile Paul grew very fond of her and recognizing that she had no family, he adopted her so he could take care of her while she was still under age. She stayed with him for a couple years. At first he had quarters next to his assigned so that if she needed anything he would not be too far but at the same time give her personnel space. That changed after a couple months as Schala didn’t want to be alone like that. Paul taught her about engineering, and taught her more advanced fighting abilities that the Hajra tribe had not had. When Paul welcomed her into his family he presented her with a Crysknife with his mouse symbol on the hilt. As the time came She left the Caladan to join Starfleet because she had nowhere left to go. Paul helped her prepare for the entrance exams and she passed.
She had a lot of trouble at the academy, because she would not allow anyone to get close to her, constantly afraid that everyone she met would try to hold her captive again she had no friends. Her silence lead to teasing, and the teasing led to a lot of inured cadets. The only places she excelled at was in engineering, combat training, and she more then passed her survival training. From the little bits they learned of her past she was actually except from the training, however she wanted to go anyway. Over time she managed to pass through the academy, top of her class in the engineering department.
